About

“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.

Jesus in John 8:12

The heart of Release’s ministry comes from the profound experiences in prison of Romanian pastor Richard Wurmbrand, who inspired the founding of Release International (RI). He was thrown into a communist jail for 14 years because of his Christian faith. Today, Christians around the world continue to suffer in the same way.

In 2004 RI responded to God’s call to establish a special stream of ministry within the organisation to focus specifically on supporting Christian prisoners of faith and their families – prayerfully, practically and pastorally. This ministry stream continues to be our beating heart twelve years on.

Light in the Darkest Places  endeavours to tell the stories of these hidden disciples to help Christians in the UK and Ireland actively engage with their persecuted brothers and sisters around the world; praying with them, helping them and learning lessons of true Christian discipleship with them.

If this is you, please do get in touch. We would love to hear your stories too.
